Ghost town in Saint Chamond, France
February 4th, 2010Here is a little overview of the successful Saint Chamond Ghost town operation.
Many participants : elected people, employees, shop owners, association representatives, pensioners and others. Thanks to everyone!
The demonstration was set around 6 different pictures to denounce the impact of the closing down of Siemens VAI France in Saint Chamond. The people did set themselves into caracteristic positions which describe the dangers or emotions that people being fired will be submitted to.
Casualisation
The employees sitting in the street like beggers denounce casualisation.

Struck by lightning
To symbolise the sudden impact of being fired and to denounce it, the employees dropped themselves on the floor.

Becoming fragile
The employees lye on the floor, crossing their arms on their chest, like people spleeping out in cold streets. This position was chosen to denounce the fragilisation of the inhabitants of Saint Chamond after the social plan.

Humiliation
Sitting on the floor, knees half folded, hands crossed on the ankle, face towards the feets, the employees are denouncing the humiliation of being disposed of their jobs by someone who doesn't know them, doesn't like them, doesn't discuss with their representatives and will later leave the place.

Being defeated
Standing, head down, the employees denouce being crushed down by a multinational company.

Anonymisation
Forming an endless queue with a mask, the employees denounce the anonymisation of excluded people.

We denounce all these things!
Thanks to all the participants, thanks to the shop owners for their support, thanks to the mayor for his help, thanks to the bishop for ringing the church bells at the start of the demonstration, thanks to the association representatives and finally thanks to the media for reporting this event.
